Equine Medicine and Surgery  

The School of Specialization in Horse Medicine and Surgery, based at the University Veterinary Hospital of Lodi, aims to provide trainees with scientific and professional, theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of equine clinic. In particular, the specialist in Medicine and Surgery of the horse must develop scientific and professional knowledge, theoretical and practical, in the field of equine clinic. Must acquire adequate command of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Infectious Diseases, Hygiene and Prevention, Sports Medicine. Therefore, he will have to deepen: the physiopathology, the functional and instrumental semeiotics of the different organs and systems; the clinic, diagnosis, therapy and prevention of organic, metabolic, infectious, parasitic diseases and traditional and innovative bio-technologies, reproductive, diagnostic and therapeutic; sports medicine and performance evaluation; pharmacodynamics and toxicology relating to pharmacologically active molecules in sports medicine; the relevant medico-legal aspects. It must also deal with topics concerning the technology of breeding, the taxonomic recognition and genetic improvement of the main equine species in relation to the different functional attitudes, the rational nutrition necessary for the performance of specific competitive activities and notions of general and special pharmacology. and food toxicology, epidemiology and clinical statistics and general and particular hygiene rules for the protection of farms and the environment.

To this end, the School avails itself of the collaboration of teachers from its own and other Italian and foreign universities, freelance professors with proven experience in specific fields of hippiasis, teachers from national bodies such as zooprophylactic institutes, CNR, F.I.S.E. Furthermore, the School makes use of agreements with Bodies and other Universities for the performance of profesional training activities provided for in the teaching plan.

The specialization diploma is a valid title for competition purposes for access to the National Health Service in functional areas A of Animal Health and C of Hygiene of Livestock and Livestock Production.
